Goose House!

We decided it was easiest, and the best to simply make a goose door at one end of the barn and give one 1/3 of the barn to the geese. So they now have a 12x8' indoor shelter. :-) Ben made a hole in the panel cattle that divides the sheep and geese. The piece that he cut out to make the hole became a door. He cut the bottom 2 sections of the gate piece off so it sits about 4" off the ground for easy opening. (He left the bottom 2 (and top 2) sections of the panel with the hole so we did not need to put two posts in for a gate.)
The geese love their new house. They spent almost all afternoon in the barn! :-) This will be a wonderful place for them to sit and raise a nice size family like they tried to do this summer when I didn't have them properly housed....

During the coldest months we put that heavy duty clear plastic on the little windows to help with the draft. The open side of the barn faces south. Even during all this wet, the barn is completely dry. It's a muddy mess right in front, but inside it's 100% dry. And the mud is much improved since we put the "gutter" above the door a couple years ago. Before we put the gutter up there would be a pool of water, now it's just mud.
